Stroke (Apoplexy)

A stroke is caused by a sudden interruption of blood supply to the brain. Although it occurs more frequently in older adults, children and young adults can also be affected.

The consequences primarily affect movement, coordination, and muscle control.

  • Paralysis or weakness on one side of the body: One side is permanently or temporarily reduced in strength and mobility.
  • Coordination and balance disorders: Everyday movements and mobility are significantly impaired.
  • Altered muscle tone: Muscle tension may be increased or decreased, affecting posture and movement.
  • Fine and gross motor impairments: Gripping, writing, and larger body movements are affected.

Especially in childhood, the brain has a high capacity for adaptation. Nevertheless, permanent postural or joint misalignments can develop and should be addressed early.

Orthopedic Care After Stroke

Individually adapted orthopedic aids support rehabilitation and daily life following a stroke.

  • Stabilizing movement patterns: Orthoses and aids promote controlled and safe movement in everyday life.
  • Avoiding overload on the healthy side: Targeted care relieves the unaffected side of the body and prevents secondary damage.
  • Improving posture and gait: Precisely fitted aids counteract misalignments and support a safer gait pattern.
