Veterinary Orthopaedics
In addition to orthotic care for humans, we have also specialized in orthotic and prosthetic care for animals. The primary goals of veterinary orthopaedics are pain relief and improved quality of life, restoration and maintenance of mobility, and correction of misalignments. After surgeries or accidents, we want to support your four-legged companions in the best possible way.
Orthoses for Animals
Orthoses are external devices that stabilize, relieve or guide joints or limbs, similar to those used in humans.
- Areas of application: Joint instability (e.g. elbow or knee joint), cruciate ligament injuries in dogs, osteoarthritis or joint degeneration, support after fractures or surgery.
- Function and construction: Materials: plastic, aluminium, neoprene, foam, joint components. Custom-fitted to the animal’s anatomy. Goal: enable movement without overloading the joint.
- Knee orthosis (cruciate ligament): Stabilizes the knee after cruciate ligament injuries.
- Paw orthosis: Supports injured limbs in dogs or cats.
- Spinal orthosis: Supports animals with spinal problems, e.g. herniated discs.
Prostheses for Animals
Prostheses replace missing limbs or parts thereof, enabling the animal to move functionally.
- Areas of application: Amputation following accident or tumour removal, congenital malformations or those caused by trauma.
- Dog prostheses: Replacement for paws, commonly for front or hind limbs.
- Horse prostheses: For hooves or legs after severe injuries.
- Cat prostheses: Rare, mostly for misalignments or amputations.
